JENNIFER TRIJO – Founder/Director of The Serenade Files

Jennifer Trijo is a Filipino-Australian writer, singer, musician, actress, teacher, and composer who has toured with professional bands, appeared on commercial television and radio, and performed in notable theatre productions as Baruska in Once (Darlinghurst Theatre Company NSW), Kim in the Australian Tour of Miss Saigon (Louise Withers and Associates; Michael Coppel), Mary Magdalene in the Australian Premier of Cross and Light (ACTS SA), Mulan/Pocahontas/Princess Badroulbadour in the Australian Premiere of Disenchanted! (Mad About Theatre QLD), and Candy in The Hipster (Sound Bowl Productions SA).

Growing up in Sydney she acquired a wealth of stage experience as a cabaret artist with Skeed Entertainment, supported major Filipino artists in their Australian tours, and shared the stage with many iconic Australian artists. As an APRA/AMCOS registered songwriter she has produced a self-titled EP, and the album Keys to a Woman’s Heart.

She was music director and composer for A Thousand Cranes written by playwright Kathryn Schultz Miller and produced by The Gemini Collective, which won the Adelaide Curtain Call Award for Best Youth Theatre Production in 2019. She also musically directed Shrek (J. Tesori) and Wicked (S. Schwartz), both produced by the Adelaide Youth Theatre. Other music director credits include Mamma Mia! (B Andersson/B Ulvaeus) produced by the Metropolitan Musical Theatre Company of SA, Peter Pan (A Drewe/G Stiles) produced by the Adelaide Theatre Academy, and Strictly Ballroom the Musical (E Perfect/D Foster/S Furler), produced by Matt Byrne Media, for which she was assistant music director.

Jennifer is the founder and director of creative business The Serenade Files, a creative arts studio and online publication for emerging creatives and entrepreneurs. Her published work has appeared in Limelight Magazine, AussieTheatre.com, Australian Teacher Magazine, and Social Alternatives.

Jennifer is completing her Diploma of Positive Psychology and Wellbeing in 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice) and Bachelor of Education from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and has completed a Diploma of Business Management from Martin College via a scholarship.

In 2020, she made her debut performances with ActNow Theatre as Millie in Like Me, Like You. During this year, she was accepted into the Interplay artist development program by Nexus Arts, and subsequently released new original music through their concert series. She continues her involvement with Nexus Arts as a musician in the Nexus Arts Orchestra, and in 2021 she performed at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre with the NAO and shared the stage with Aussie rockstars The Birds of Tokyo.

In the 2021 Adelaide Fringe Festival, she wrote and performed her original cabaret Someday receiving critical acclaim for its blend of original music and positive psychology themes. She works as a voice tutor for the Bachelor of Music Theatre program at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, and is currently touring with Darlinghurst Theatre Company’s Once the musical performing the roles of Baruska and Associate Musical Director.
