Mamma Mia! Here we go again Adelaide

Set on a sunny Greek island, Catherine Johnson’s tale about a daughter, mother, and three possible fathers is the whimsical backdrop to a playlist of ABBA hits. It has been a delight to be working on this show as part of the production team. The Metropolitan Musical Theatre Company of South Australia presents this production between 17 – 26 October at the Arts Theatre, Adelaide.

It’s particularly sentimental musically-directing this production as a new mother. I began rehearsals with the cast in late July and welcomed the arrival of my daughter in the middle of the rehearsal season. The past month and a half has been eventful with our talented cast refining their scenes and choreography under the direction of Selena Britz and Carmel Vistoli respectively.

Putting together the various elements of a theatrical production is a rush and I love the challenge that it brings. I enjoy seeing everything unfold and most of all watching the performers and musicians grow in confidence with each run of the show. Earlier this month, we had a seated rehearsal (sitzprobe) with the orchestra and cast coming together for the first time. Below is a picture from the perspective of our percussionist, Corinne.

We’re now in the theatre and I have the job of driving the show’s music from Keyboard 1 and the conductor’s podium. This is highly recommended for those who love an adrenaline rush. I’ll try to update my Instagram stories so follow @the_serenade_files for some behind-the-scenes fun from the orchestra pit.
