After years of hope and speculation, many Australian music theatre lovers are elated by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s official announcement today. Miranda’s hit musical Hamilton will be making its way to Australia in March 2021.

Hamilton’s original Broadway producer Jeffrey Seller will be teaming up with Australian producer Michael Cassel to stage the premiere at the Lyric Theatre.
Hamilton: An American Musical depicts the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton through singing, rap, and hip-hop-infused choreography. Lin-Manuel Miranda created the music, lyrics and book inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow.
The musical made history for breaking box office records and for its culturally-diverse casting. Given that Miranda is Latino American and the original show draws its cast from Asian, Middle Eastern, and African backgrounds, producers for the Australian production wish to honour this in their casting.
“Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now!”
– ‘That Would Be Enough’, Eliza Hamilton
Since the original production, starring Miranda, opened in 2015, it was nominated for a number of Tony Awards winning 11, including best musical, best book, best score, best actor, best actress, best direction, and best choreography.
