If Adelaide can boast anything, it is the four-day World Of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD) Festival that it hosts annually during the March long weekend. Locals affectionately refer to it as Mad March because during this time Adelaide hosts many events simultaneously, and the city is abuzz with arts and culture.
To be immersed in the creativity and talent that featured on the stages of WOMADelaide between 9 – 12 March, 2018 was enriching. I was charged with the duty of photo-journaling on behalf of a major broadcaster, however, the most fulfilling part of my role was talking with the artists about their work, their lifestyle, and their art.
I danced my heart out, and my eyes were treated to the vivid colour and lush greens of the Botanic Gardens. My ears indulged in languages and music from around the globe; it was heavenly, and I felt right in my element.
I felt connected to my fellow man through music, and everyone was approachable and joyous in these surroundings; such is the power of art and culture. I witnessed something good in humanity during these days, something that will stay with me for a long time.
I want you to see what the world was like through my eyes when my heart beat was one with the djembes. My bare feet were pounding the earth as I moved to the groove of humanity united through music and love.
I want to share some of my heart with you through these photos. This is what it looked like through my lens, and by the way, if you happen to find two 58mm Canon camera lens covers in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens, they’re probably mine.

I highly recommend that you tune into Andrew Ford’s Music Show on ABC Radio National. Ford interviewed various artists on the Novatech stage and the podcasts are all available via these links: Le Vent du Nord, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Blick Bassy, Violons Barbares, and My Bubba.

I especially liked the pics of the Ghanaian artist JoJo Abot – what an inspirational, feminist powerhouse diva.I loved that she said she stands with the oppressed and leverages her influence to give a voice to those that often do not have one.
