F.R.I.E.N.D.S

I was a huge fan of the 90s sitcom, but this is more personal.

As a musician and a generally free spirit, I’ve grown up living a rather gypsy life. I have moved a lot, mainly around Australia and I have made many friends along the way. A majority of them, I regretfully don’t get to see in person very often but I know that they hold a special place in my heart and in my life journey: for me, this is enough. Sadly, for some, this is not. I surround myself with people of light, love, and positivity as much as possible. The toxic personalities in my life do not get the privilege of my time. This is both for their benefit and my own. I figured, the genuine souls will reap the benefit of my love, friendship, and selflessness. I have a lot of that to offer.

Friendship is an investment and if someone has got a bad interest rate then I am going to invest somewhere else!

(pun intended)

It was a pleasant 26 degrees celsius in Adelaide today and I spent it with a very pleasant friend whom I had not seen in 3 years!  Neither of us could understand why so much time had passed since we last caught up for a coffee, but neither of us really cared that much either. To me, this was one of the hallmarks of a true friendship. She never kept a tally, and she was not begrudging of why we hadn’t seen each other until now. We simply enjoyed one another’s company and felt grateful for the opportunity to catch up in person. It made me reflect on the people in my life who had cut me out simply because I moved interstate or followed my dreams. Though this saddened me, I am probably better for it because it isn’t worth cultivating a friendship that isn’t genuine to begin with. True friends don’t zap the energy out of you leaving you emotionally exhausted until you have little left to offer.

What you see is what you get with me, and anyone who has met me knows that. I strike up conversations easily and I talk to almost anybody, partly because I am inquisitive, but also because I find people interesting. I have another geeky acrostic poem for friends that I came up with.

Forgiving
Respectful
Incredible
Engaged
Natural
Dependable
Selfless

True friends don’t keep score. If you can count at least one true friend in your life, then you are blessed. Cheers to friendship, old and new, and the amazing people who enrich our lives every day!
